When Katya first met Sasha, the world paused for a second—and then resumed, changed forever.
The trees were the same, the air smelled the same, Katya was the same—but the world wasn’t. It was a world with Sasha.
Four years later, Katya suddenly saw the same world again, the one that existed before that August. She tried to sense other smells, see other walls, she touched her arms. Everything looked exactly as it did yesterday, and at the same time—like it had before that August.
It was simply a world after love.

The end of a romantic relationship is always the breaking of an ideal. Ultimately, this experience transcends gender, orientation, and personal preference.
Yet the ways we cope with the loss of the ideal depend on our social environments—on whether we are allowed to compare, justify, or reimagine what love should be.
How does our ideal of a partner or relationship transform after love ends? What influences that transformation, and does the ideal change at its core? Do we remain alike even when we choose different cultural identities or forms of intimacy?
And—should we even be constructing an ideal at all?
