Biography
Alena Budarina is an artist and curator, born in 1989 in Tolyatti, Russia. In 2011, she graduated from Tolyatti State University with a degree in Fine and Decorative Arts. Since 2009, she has been organizing contemporary art exhibitions and festivals. In 2016, she co-founded the apartment gallery vNORE. That same year, she completed the Free Workshops program at MMOMA (Moscow) and the L-A-N School of Contemporary Art (Moscow). In 2017, she graduated from the PyrFyr School of Performance (Moscow).
Since 2016, she has been teaching at the Laboratory of Performative Practices The Body as a Reason for Art. From 2021 to 2023, she led projects at the creative center Golosova 20.
Her artistic practice explores social issues, autobiography, identity, and nostalgia. Working across media, she creates graphic and painterly works, collages, and performances.
She currently lives and works in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
